The Pacific Rim has been basically described as an economic-oriented (commerce, markets) way of looking at the exchange between the Asia-Pacific countries. In this respect, one of the first issues that need to be addressed is how the ?knowledge market? among different realities that participate in a huge economic-regional market builds up exchanges and ?negotiations? that will further enrich the market with ideas more than with just ?branded products?.
The three most influential generators of productivity within new media are in the Educational, Cultural and Industry sectors. These groups are not working together to develop joint strategies that could be useful within a regional context. In that sense the idea of this working group is to develop relations, strategies and processes among these different groups with a group of professionals in both Asia and Latin America ?emergent markets?.
�Within this perspective a number of recommendations should arise in defining collaboration among different realities/groups in relation to new media and its creative practices:
- Strategies for working among education, creative/cultural new media industries and the private sector.
- How to foster visibility of certain countries and groups in each region where we don?t know what?s going on.
- How the educational sector develops new media practices that could be useful for both the commercial and cultural sector.
- What kind of commercial and IT exchange is being done today and what could/should be done.
- Examples on how certain technological developments are working in different realities and how to deploy them in other realities that could have things in common:
- For what it could be useful within a regional context?
- Issues and social problematic common in the region (or sub-regions): native languages, poverty, access to technology and information.
- How does technology helps in developing real bridges and communication? Examples of successful experiences.
- Information exchange (directory)
- Possible academic/working exchanges in the future.
The working group will try to search for those issues and try to find solutions or at least come with recommendations out of the different experiences of their participants.
